Pet Friendly Fake Grass Tilehurst

For pet owners, in particular dog owner's the constant hassle of cleaning muddy paws when your dog returns back into the house from the garden after doing their business is one of the main drivers that pet owners start to investigate the merits of artificial grass.

A number of people will be weary of making the switch to fake grass, especially if they have seen their pet chewing or eating normal grass. As a result many pet owners will seek our pet friendly fake grass when looking for artificial grass for pets in Tilehurst. The key thing to remember is that whilst artificial grass may look very much like real grass, it doesn't taste the same (not that we've spent that much time tasting different synthetic grasses against real grasses). Almost all pets such as rabbits or guinea pigs can run freely on artificial grass and are very unlikely to make a meal from the fake turf as they will recognise that it is not a source of food for them. As a result almost all artificial grass is suitable for pets but some will be better than other from an owners perspective.

Artificial Grass for Dogs in Tilehurst

For pet owners who have had enough of muddy paws and are looking for artificial grass for dogs in Tilehurst then we have a suitable selection for you. From a dog owners perspective almost any artificial grass will seem a better choice than real grass, especially in those wet autumn  and winter months. However, as with most things in life you will get what you pay for so whilst you may initially be focussing on the artificial grass itself in regard to your dog the quality of installation, such as ensuring that your artificial lawn has proper drainage, will mean that you will not have puddles forming and have wet feet, although not muddy, coming into your house on a frequent basis.

Many pet dogs will also enjoy rolling around on fake grass outside so having a well installed artificial lawn will go a long way to ensure your have a hassle free time as a dog owner.

Best Artificial Grass for Pets

So when asked what is the best artificial grass for pets and owners the answer is a little more complicated than simply saying 'this one'. You may have seen on the internet or heard from friends, family or colleagues who have had artificial grass and have commented that the smell of dog urine lingers. If this is the case it will generally not be down to the actual grass they selected but more to do with the quality and correct selection of aggregate, membrane and fitting procedures.

We follow the correct artificial grass installation process and materials to ensure that your artificial lawn is as self cleaning as possible when it comes to pet pee. The groundworks need to be deep enough to ensure good drainage and if the aggregate has limestone in it, which ours does, it also acts as a natural neutraliser of dog pee.  The membrane we use is fully porous (in the right direction) further allowing a good flow down of the urine. The one aspect which can undermine all of this is if following laying of your artificial turf your installer then applies a sand infill. The sand will block a number of the synthetic grasses drainage holes and this will then cause the dog pee to sit in the sand - which will lead to the odour being noticeable.

As well as the correct installation our grass is treated with UV protective coating so as well as resisting fading from dog pee it will also protect it from fading from the sun and also keep the grass cooler so it can be enjoyed more by your pets in the hotter summer months without causing discomfort.

Artificial Grass for Schools Tilehurst

For larger organisation such as schools, nurseries, universities and sports facilities there will be a strong case for having some areas, especially a sports pitch or part of a playground fitted with artificial grass.

For sports pitches we provide some of the best 4G astroturf in Tilehurst, so if you are looking to convert a section of your grounds for all-year round sports usage please get in touch. Our infill free 4G artificial grass is one of the best playing surfaces with minimal ongoing maintenance required.

This artificial grass is particularly suited for schools and nurseries as you do not have to make arrangements for someone to schedule top ups. What you will also notice is that when compared to 3G your changing room floors will not be covered in sand or rubber crumbs when finished we leads to additional cleaning time.

Artificial Grass for Play Areas Tilehurst

Artificial grass for play areas in Tilehurst is becoming increasingly popular in schools and especially nurseries. Whilst there are other options such as chip bark or rubber mulch both have some degree of mess and hassle associated with it. Sand and crumbs or rubber mulch often come loose and have a tendency to find their way from people to places. Whilst this is fairly minimal with rubber mulch the alternative of wood chippings, whilst cheap, is quite excessive. Not only can small bits of wood be brought into your building but in high winds the wood chips can be blown out of their designated area and become a maintenance headache. After a year or so the wood will start to degrade further and smell which will generally require a full replacement.

Artificial grass for Nurseries Tilehurst

When installing artificial grass for nurseries in Tilehurst we install it with an appropriate underlay of foam or rubber to provide protective cushioning from falls. The synthetic grass will provide a very need clean and vibrant play area with little to no maintenance requirements. We are finding more areas that were previously both grass and concrete being replaced by a continuous artificial grass layer. In a nursery or junior school environment it is idea for playing and for setting underneath climbing frames and slides to provide a safe and clean surface for children. For secondary schools, colleges in Tilehurst an artificial grass playing surface for a variety of sports will ensure that you will have an area which can be used almost all year round to ensure student remain healthy and active. Since the installation process involves full setting of a draining sub base many schools have been able to use their artificial grass areas to host other outdoor events, which may otherwise have been cancelled due to bad weather. Other's have been able to hire out their facility to bring additional revenue into their accounts.

We can provide a unique finance and lease arrangement, which has been approved by the Education Authority for state schools, nurseries and other public sector organisations. There really has been no better time to enhance your paying areas with the best artificial grass available.

Artificial Grass Fitters Tilehurst

Our artificial grass fitters in Tilehurst will want to know your design aspirations as one of the first steps of the procedure prior to any fitting. Letting clients know what alternatives they may have on edging, joint positions all need to be known before installation so that we can avoid reworking and additional costs. We work in close collaboration with our customers, we intend to make certain that your vision of the lawn you desire is met to the optimum. Prior to beginning installation once we know your design and layout preferences we will need to check on the existing ground and how well it drains and whether some subtle instalment modifications may be beneficial to reduce water build-up following heavy rains. We are diligent in preventing future issues by considering existing elements which may affect your grass with a brand-new artificial lawn. We take measurements as well as draw up our initial draft of the total design. We will also need to consider aspects such as grass pile direction and where any necessary joints may end up. Depending on where the grass this cut may allow a couple of alternative joint options without affecting wastage. The bordering you want will certainly play its part in the installation process with the most common being wooden sleepers where previously a client's lawn ran up to a flower bed. Where your existing lawn runs along a straight line fitting sleepers is a great way to finish off the grass and create a barrier to prevent soil from spilling over onto the edges of your synthetic grass. If you are having your fake grass fitted onto decking which has a very precise straight edge this can simply be cut to follow this edge or be fixed down the side of the decking if desired. Where the grass will butt up to the paving the grass will be fitted flush to the side of the paving stones. Hopefully, you can see how some decisions on these different elements can influence the look and expenses to some degree so the total fitting cost does not simply stop at the grass itself.

Ground Preparation before laying artificial turf

The next step of the fitting procedure is ground preparation. It plays an important part in the performance and long term stability and drainage of your artificial lawn and we need to check for any existing electrical cables, telephone, broadband, or piping that needs to remain under the area where we will be installing your synthetic grass. If replacing an existing lawn we will get rid of the turf and also any additional soil that requires removal to allow a sufficient depth of sub-base to be laid. Correct base preparation is critical to the long-term health of your fake grass, so our service technicians at Artificial Grass Tilehurst make certain to pay very close attention to it. Depending on nature of your existing ground beneath your turn will influence the amount of aggregate they may be laid to help with effective drainage. The amount of base will also depend on whether or not you want to follow the existing slope or whether your want to use this as an opportunity to make some slight adjustments to the slope and cater to some different edging that will affect the height of your artificial grass verge. The fitting of a weed membrane is laid on top of the aggregate upon which sand is placed on top to provide a porous flat surface onto which your chosen artificial grass is placed.

It is generally a much simpler process to fit artificial grass onto a hard base such as concrete or decking. However, you will get different results, especially on concrete as this is nonporous. Fitting artificial grass over concrete is normally done as a temporary measure as part of our rental offering where synthetic grass may be simply p[laced on top of both existing grass and concrete for a temporary event to provide a consistent surface for guests to walk across comfortably with little chance of slipping.

Artificial Grass Tilehurst supply and fit

The part of the installation which really starts to excite customers is the laying of the artificial turf itself. The artificial grass rolls are carefully positioned so that they can be rolled out smoothly without damaging the smooth and flattened base below it. Clearly, the orientation is double-checked so that we know that we will achieve the best fit and follow the agreed orientation and position of any joints. If more than one roll is being laid next to each other it is important to ensure the pile direction is the same way to make any joints as invisible as possible. Once the grass has been rolled out we begin the process of cutting to fit and fixing it down. Where there are joints, we will set the appropriate jointing strip beneath both edges and ensure that these are as close to each other as possible before fixing to achieve an almost invisible joint.

Then comes the stage where we affix the artificial turf to the boundary edges of the area so that we continually get a perfectly flat fit with no air pockets, lumps, or creases. Once it has all been laid we go round inspecting all aspects of the fitting and we encourage you to accompany us whilst we do it so we know you are completely satisfied with our workmanship. As previously mentioned whilst we aim to keep to our agreed installation schedule there will be times when the weather can play its part. We will always come back as soon as practical to finish the job off properly and as we take no payment until the job is complete you have complete peace of mind knowing you'll get a quality installation. Trying to complete a task in the wrong conditions will affect certain aspects of fitting so when getting quotes if any company absolutely guarantees a completion timeframe with no caveats we weary. We provide guarantees for 10 years and the reason we provide such a guarantee is that we do it right the first time so there will be no reason for us to come back and you remain happy with your new lawn for many years beyond its initial fitting.

Finishing off your artificial grass installation

Once your new artificial grass or astroturf pitch has been laid it isn't the end of our work. We take pride in the complete finishing of your artificial grass installation. How we leave your property and ensure that you are wowed by the whole experience is important to us.

Almost every fitting will result in a number of off-cuts being available. As you have effectively paid for all the artificial grass which we brought to your property if you can make good use of them then by all means please let us know. We have seen a number of people keep larger cuts to lay partially over areas of decking or a patio with smaller offcuts being used to lay plant pots on top off. For the materials, you do not wish to keep we will take all of these away and dispose of them responsibly and recycle as much as possible. Only when the whole area is tidied up and as good as, if not better than, when we started will we see our job as completed and ask for it to be signed off for approval by you.

Artificial Grass For Sports Pitches Tilehurst

We have an experienced team of artificial turf fitters who have installed and converted many grass and shale pitches into new synthetic ones. So if you are looking for artificial grass for sports pitches in Tilehurst we hope to be on your list of supplier and installer companies. Whilst we can install both 3G and 4G astroturf pitches the vast majority are choosing 4G especially if looking to replace and older 2G or 3G pitch as you will already be familiar with the maintenance requirements of those generation pitches. Say goodbye to infilling and the associated hassle, costs and negative feedback from players just after you've topped up.

If you are at a stage where you have undertaken several patch repairs and are starting to see this as a regular exercise, with our lease plan why not explore the feasibility of a full replacement, that over the long term will be a more cost effective option and one which your customers will appreciate.

Artificial Grass Cost

With an ever increasing number of artificial grass suppliers joining the market including DIY stores and carpet shops there is a wide range of synthetic grasses available and as a result quite a wide range of price points to cater for different uses, budgets and customer demographics. When trying to establish an average fake grass cost this will also be determined whether or not you wish to include installation and  if it is, what is your artificial turf going to be installed onto, or what is it replacing?

At the bottom end of synthetic grasses you can find grasses for around £10 per square meter. These are the budget grasses and are often found in DIY sores where you can pick up a relatively small roll and pop it into your shopping trolley. Typically they will have a low pile rating to keep costs down and are likely to be imported from somewhere like China with limited protective treatments applied. The typical use for such grasses may be to simply lay it down over a patio to provide a slightly more comfortable playing surface for small children or to use as a softer, greener base on which to rest pots, or ornaments.

Proper artificial grasses for full lawn replacement will be around £30-£40 m2 for a good all rounder synthetic grass with more expensive options still available.

We provide a range of quality fake grasses and are happy to discuss the merits of these with you.

Artificial Grass Installation Cost

An artificial grass installation cost will vary depending on the size and type of installation. The lowest installation cost option will be on top or an existing hard surface such as decking or on top of concrete. This is when synthetic grass is used to provide a slightly softer and more appealing surface finish and there is an existing water run away from the hard surface below. Our installer will simply may sure that fitting is tight and secure and that any joints are as undetectable to the eye as possible. Sometimes an additional rubber or foam underlay may be requested to add an additional layer of cushioning. Clearly this will add to the material an installation costs but generally will be cheaper than the installation costs for a full replacement lawn.

When replacing an existing lawn the installation process requires the removal of the existing turf and digging down to a depth which will allow a suitable aggregate layer to be fitted, followed by sand, weed membranes and the artificial grass itself. Often it will also include fitting a frame and additional edging materials and fixing which will add to the total cost, as will fitting around curved edges. However, these small costs will not make a big difference to the installation costs and you would be looking at around £40 per square meter fitting cost including additional sub-base materials for a lawn replacement.

Cost of Artificial Grass versus Real Grass

The key when looking at any costs is to look beyond simply the obvious direct costs and also look to take in indirect and opportunity costs too to understand net pricing. For those of you not familiar with these terms, which are more commonly used in accounting, they can be explained as follows: Direct costs are those which are very obvious and straight forward such as the cost of materials or say the total cost of having an artificial lawn installed. Whilst the initial cost may seem expensive, especially as you already have an existing lawn the key to deciding the costs of anything as to whether or not it may seem expensive it to ask yourself 'compared to what' and over 'how long'?

When getting down to understanding the true cost of artificial grass versus real grass it is important to consider aspects such as what does it cost to maintain your existing lawn each year. There may be some easy to calculate direct figures especially if you employ a gardener to maintain your lawn but even if you are doing it yourself you will be paying for lawn feed, patch repair, weed killer. However, the other big indirect costs cost which you probably won't factor in initially if your time. Time spent applying weed killer, patch repair and of course mowing. What is your current hourly rate? How would costs look if you included the time you spent on on lawn maintenance? How else could yo use this time? This is where opportunity cost comes in - having an artificial grass lawn will give you back time to spend however you wish but what would you pay to sit sipping cocktails versus moving the lawn?

An artificial lawn will typically last 15 years, if not longer, so factor in 15 years worth of mowing hours, lawn feed, weed killer and sprinkler watering and you will realise that an the cost of an artificial lawn ends up being quite cheap!

Astro Turf Costs

Whilst astro turf and artificial grass are essentially the same thing, most people will refer to astro turf when talking about sports pitches and the shorter synthetic pitches, covered by sand, which many of us will have played on over the years. These 2G and 3G astroturf sports pitches were the early artificial grasses used to provide more all year round playing surfaces and again the same principles apply when looking at astro turf costs. In actual fact the maintenance of natural grass pitches would require much more effort and through out the year there will be many occasions where a muddy waterlogged pitch will mean that no sports can take place.

For many leisure businesses, schools and universities having at least one astro turf pitch meant that outdoor sports could take place almost all year round and as such you would have a facility which is much more versatile and one which can be hired out for various activities. The return on investment for an astro turf pitch will clearly depend on how much you can hire out the facility but by providing well run leagues combined with a training venue or social sports hire will mean that you will be able to make money from your artificial grass sports pitch.

With our lease plan there is not better time to install or upgrade to a low maintenance 4G astroturf pitch. Please get in touch to discuss our astro turf costs in more detail and arrange a full survey.

Best Artificial Grass Tilehurst

With so many artificial grasses on the market it can seem a bit of a headache trying to decide on which one to go for. It is tempting and may seem the obvious thing to choose the one which you like the look of the most but the most important aspect is being clear about what or who will be using the fake grass area.

Clearly the visual aspect will still be very important and our team of specialise will bring large samples so you can get a really good idea of what it will look like in your garden. We want to ensure you get the best artificial grass for you so we are happy to discuss the merits of our grasses and explain the effects of different pile lengths and densities, and what effect different textures have which you will be able to see and feel for yourselves. One of the biggest influencing your choice will be whether or not your artificial lawn will be used constantly by children, pets and all members of the family or primarily to provide a low maintenance lawn which will look green and tidy all year round.

Types of Artificial Grass

With so many types of artificial grass to choose from you may wonder where to start. The main aspect of artificial grasses is that whilst many will look very similar to one another there are certain process in the manufacturing process that will influence the quality of the artificial grass you choose. The inclusion of some of these additional features such as UV protection certainly makes for a better artificial grass. We only use the best artificial grass manufactured in Europe. In fact we have been using the same manufacturer many years and we know the quality of their products are hard wearing designed to withstand the changing British climate. We have a selection of colours and piles to cater for different tastes and usage. We know that for gardens the grass you choose will be a combination of how it looks and how you'll use it. Whilst all types of synthetic grasses can be referred to as artificial grass the shorter pile length typically used for sports is often referred to as Astroturf. Whilst the broad make up is the same there will be differences aside from the obvious one of pile height which make this type of synthetic grass suitable for heavy and extreme use. Since artificial grass pitches will need to take into account falls and stumbles the base layers will also me more involved often including an additional foam or rubber layer to cushion falls. Our domestic artificial grass combined with our installation knowledge and top quality accessories means you will have the best possible artificial grass for your garden.

3G & 4G Astroturf

As touched upon many sports facilities that have an astro turf pitch will have had a 3G pitch installed. These have been around for a number of years, have a much shorter pile than garden synthetic grass, and we install these too. However, replacement and new installations are migrating to 4G pitches and for good reason. 3G pitches require much more maintenance than a 4G pitch and this is mostly down to the requirement of an infill being used. An infill will be brushed over the top of a 3G astroturf pitch to preserve it lifespan. Early version used sand but more recently rubber crumbs have been used for newer 3G pitches. Whilst sports player will love the fact that they can play their chosen sport almost all year round on an artificial pitch - the collection or sand or rubber following a session can be quite annoying as sand or rubber will get into your socks, shoes and feet so will require a brush down afterwards. Also if players have their session soon after an infill top up has been applied this creates a much more slippery surface, especially with sand infills, and players will grumble until it has bedded down after a few weeks. Whilst 4G artificial grass pitches will be more expensive they will save over the long term by removing the material and associated labour required to infill. With our lease plans we are seeing many more organisation moving to a 4G astro turf installation

Artificial Lawns

Clearly you would expect us to be fans of an artificial lawn but it is undergoing exceptional growth across the UK and on a global basis.

The most obvious reason for this is that lifestyles have changed quite dramatically over the last couple of decade. People are working harder, longer hours and as a result family and leisure time are highly treasured. Most maintenance tasks around the house and garden are seen as a hassle and take away from doing something more enjoyable. Depending on the size of your garden area trying to maintain a good looking lawn just in the summer, let alone the resat of the year can be quite a chore. Scarifying, weeding, patch repair, watering are some of the tasks and that's without mentioning the main one of mowing the lawn!

Having an artificial grass lawn is an excellent way of getting back some more of your time to spend enjoying life!

Why is Artificial Grass Good?

When we are asked why is artificial grass good there can often be sceptics who seen anything that is man-made as being bad but there are good arguments as to why artificial grass can be a good choice for a number of people. The first aspect to highlight is that this question is quite broad - good comparted to what? Good for who? Since artificial grass is diverse in terms of where it can be used and what for each scenarios can provide different merits as to why artificial grass is good in certain instances.

Firstly as we touched upon - removing the requirement for spending time on the maintenance of a real lawn can be a very important reason for moving to a synthetic grass. More time to spend with family friends and loved ones, especially outdoors in the summer is hard to put a price against. We have installed fake turf on top of concrete and decking and as well as improving the aesthetics of the area, which always provides a 'feel good factor' it will often make a surface much safer, especially when compared to wet wooden decking.

From a health and well being perspective the artificial grass that has been installed over the years at schools, nurseries, universities and sports clubs has allowed many, many more people to get out and play more sport for much longer than would have been possible otherwise on a fairly safe surface and one which makes many sports more enjoyable to play on.

Artificial Grass versus Real Grass

Aside from the minimal time required to look after an artificial lawn there are other factors to consider when carrying out an artificial grass versus real grass comparison. The manufacturing process the use of recycled plastic and the end result is an artificial grass is then 100% recyclable means that our choice of manufacturer provides you with one of the most environmentally friendly artificial grasses which you can buy in the UK. Whilst some people will occasionally hose down their artificial lawn this will be fairly infrequent compared to sprinklers which are left on for hours over the summer months in an attempt to keep a real lawn looking at lush and green as possible. So water use is much, much less. There is no need to apply chemicals and pesticides to an artificial grass lawn and if you look at the production and environmental impact of these treatments year after year they will not paint a great case for the environmental benefits of a real lawn. Awareness is also growing as to the dangers of using pesticides which will naturally become airborne when applying and are not good insects, fruit and certainly not if inhaled - all of this is negated with artificial grass.

Maintenance of Artificial Grass

The maintenance of artificial grass - or rather the lack of it is one of its most appealing qualities. Whilst activities such as mowing will not be required clearly in an outdoor garden environment anything which would normally land on your lawn will also land on your artificial lawn.

Cleaning dog mess will be much easier but if your pet has an upset tummy and picking up their poo is a little challenging simply washing the soft remains with a hose or watering can will get rid of anything left.

In autumn time if you have a build up of leaves they can be bundled up in a pile together using a soft plastic rake or stiff brush. Alternatively if your have a leave blower and vacuum you will find leaf collection from an artificial lawn an absolute breeze as there should be no stones or other small hard items, which are often sucked up from a real lawn, that can result in damage to your leaf vacuum.

Frequently Asked Artificial Grass Tilehurst Questions:

  • Do you supply as well as fit artificial grass?

Yes we can just supply artificial grass  - although the bulk of what we do is supply and fit. We pride ourselves on the qualitty of our artifical grass installationand when issuing guarantees most artificial grass fitters will only provide guarnatees on materials they are familiar with and have sourced themselves. If you are trying to get artificial grass on a budget beware as this may be a false economy. Regular artificial grass installers will have good trade rates with their synthetic grass suppliers so should be able to get the materials as a better price than you can get yourself. Whilst there are several online companies which will offer budget grasses a good or bad installation will make the biggest difference to the enjoyment of your artificial grass.

  • Which is the best artificial grass?

There isn't one single best artificial grass that will be best for every location, cirumstances, budget and purpose. This is ther reason we and other artifical and astro turf provides have a range. The best example of this surrounds the use of artificial grass. If you are looking at getting a 4G football pitch, which can be used for other sports such as Hockey or tennis then this will have very different attributes to a luxury artifical lawn. Hockey or tennis players would hate trying to play their sport on a 45mm high thick lush, luxury artificial grass - it would be a nightmare for them. Likewise you would not want a 4G astroturf in your back garden where you are trying to have a natural looking lush lawn. Dog owners generally choose a mid-height 35-38mm high synthetic grass as this provide a good balance  between aesthetics and practicallity for cleaning up after their dog. A pub would want something hard wearing to cater for lots of foot traffic so a long pile may not look so good if constantly trodden down. Talk to the experts at Artificial Grass Reading and once we know how you intend to use your fake grass we can help you decide on the best artificial grass for you!

  • How much is artificial grass installation in Tilehurst?

This will depend on what specification of grass you choose, how large the area you want covered, its shape and what is the existing surface it is replacing?

Generally the larger the area the slightly cheaper the total cost per square meter but ther have to be caveats to this. If the shape of the area you want to cover is an unusal shape or width you may end up with a large amount of artificial grass wastage. Artifical grass comes in rolls and the width of the roll will influence how much wastage you have and wether joining two widths of grass will be required. All grass bought will be yours, so any off cuts can perhaps be utilised in other areas of your garden but for the section in question this will pro rata a higher square mter rate.

If you have no clue as to what to expect then a good start point would be to use £75 per m2 to give you an indication of what your area could cost for full supply and fit with our most popular grass in a garden scenario.

  • Can you fit artificial grass on top of decking?

Yes we can. This has become more popular in recent years as an alternative to contrantly protecting and treating wooden decking. It is a good way of making wooden decking much safer in wet conditions. The down side is that unless yo are prepared to roll up the synthetic grass and treat the wood underneath as recommended you will shorten the life of your decking as water will not be able to evaporate as quickly and the result will mean more moisture increaase into a wood which is not protected. Fitting artificial grass on top of decking is most frequently done as a wooden deck is showing signs of weathering. An artificial grass layer completely transforms the decking area giving it a new lease of life and most people will be very pleased with this outcome to take them to the time when the whole top decking surface needs replacing.

  • Does your artificial grass fade over time?

No. All are grasses include a UV protective coating which prevents the grass from fading and should continue to look great well past our standard guarantee period of 10 years.

  • What do you recommend to finish off artificial grass edging?

This will depend on your specific fitting. For garden installations wooden sleepers are very popular as an edge but sometimes along one edge there will be an existing wall and at another end it can be fitted so that it butts right updo an existing patio or paved pathway.

The aesthetic finish is a very personal choice so we tend to let you let us know what you would like and if we know it is practical to do we will happliy provide you with your choice of edge finish.
